Why enter a homebrew competition?
While winning ribbons and seeing your name posted on a winners list are fun and exciting, that's really not the only, nor the most valuable, reason for entering a homebrew competition.
The real value in entering a homebrew competition like the South Shore Brewoff is the feedback from the judges you will receive on your score sheets. The judging panels are comprised of certified and experienced BJCP judges, experienced homebrewers, and sometimes even industry professionals. Sure, there will be numeric scores applied to appearance, aroma, flavor, and other aspects of your beer. More important are the comments written by the judges. Does your beer fall within the style parameters? Is the color too light or too dark? Is it too hoppy or not hoppy enough? In addition, the judges are experienced in detecting flaws and pointing to possible causes - infection, fermentation temperature, yeast strain, etc. By applying this valuable feedback to your recipe formulation and brewing procedures, you will be able to improve the quality of your beers.
The 2008 South Shore Brewoff is the 13th annual homebrew competition organized by the South Shore Brew Club. The competition was organized to provide entrants with a high level of evaluation and valuable feedback on their brewing efforts. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned brewer, we welcome your participation.
The 2008 South Shore Brewoff is registered with the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP). All 28 BJCP categories will be accepted and judged per the 2004 BJCP style guidelines available at: http://www.bjcp.org.
